October 2021: Open Auditions – I Love You Because – 27th October

The first Headgate Theatre Productions musical show.

Performance Dates: Wed 2nd March – Saturday 12th March (including matinee)
Participants must be available for the whole of the week commencing Sunday 27th February 2022.

Audition Date: Wednesday 27th October, 7.30pm @ The Headgate Theatre Studio

Rehearsals: Wednesday nights from December, with some additional nights or Sundays by agreement.

A modern day twist on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, I Love You Because is an exciting modern day musical set in New York City following the lives of 4 singletons looking for love.

Newly single Austin is an uptight greeting card writer who goes on to meets Marcy a free-spirited photographer who has spent years looking for Mr Right in all the wrong places. Austin’s brother Jeff and Marcy’s best friend Diana both offer their support and well-meant advice along the way resulting in a unique union of their own. The story is supported by an ensemble of ‘New Yorkers’ who will be required to sing, dance and act.

AUDITION INFORMATION
Please note that this is an amateur production, and no payment will be made to performers.

To audition please let us know you’re coming along and which part you are interested in auditioning for by emailing info@headgatetheatre.co.uk before 27th October. If you are unable to make that date, then please let us know.

Please prepare a Musical Theatre song of your choice, with the music as a backing track . It would be advisable to consider the role you wish to audition for when making this choice.

There will be some dialogue provided at the audition to read and some movement will be set.

CHARACTER INFORMATION

AUSTIN (Playing age 22-28)
Austin, a greeting card writer, is an eager beaver who had his life set, once this is taken away from him, he has to learn to change course quickly. Austin may be stuck in his ways but has a heart of gold.
It is important that Austin’s actions are believable and sincere. Austin’s comedy comes from the realism of his mannerisms and choices. Looking for strong acting through song with both emotive and comedic characteristics.

MARCY (Playing age 20-28)
Marcy, a keen photographer is making her way in New York city naively looking for love. She confides in her best friend Diana to make quiet the comedic pairing.
Looking for a portrayal of strength among her naivety alongside with empathy and hope

JEFF (Playing age (25-35)
Jeff is Austin’s older brother and forms a ‘No strings’ relationship with Diana. He is quirky and not always on the money.
Looking for a commitment to comedy and brotherly leadership.

DIANA (Playing age 25-35)
Best Friends with Marcy Diana is an actuary. Diana herself has given up on finding love and falls into a no strings attached relationship with Jeff. Diana is kind, older and wiser than Marcy, a very methodical thinker who learns to let go and enjoy the life In front of her.

NEW YORKERS.
I am looking for FOUR cheeky chappy New York folk! By this I mean that these roles are essential telling the story. Comic timing and precision is key. Must be a triple threat as role involves Singing, movement and acting.
